Mini phones are becoming popular these days especially for people who do not feel comfortable about using those not so handy bigger mobile devices. And Sony has shown the world what a proper mini phone should look like.
What makes the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact stand out from the other mini handsets out there is that, it contain everything that the original model has and only the size was reduced. This simply means that the Xperia Z1 Compact is just a small Xperia Z1 only in size.
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Design
At first glance, there doesn’t seem much difference between the Z1 and the Compact – they are nearly identical except for the physical dimensions. The original Z1 measures 5.69 inches x 2.91 inches x 0.33 inches and weighs 6 ounces. The Xperia Z1 Compact, on the other hand measures 5 inches x 2.56 inches x 0.37 inches and weighs 4.83 ounces.
Looking a bit closer and it will be noticed that the Z1 Compact has all the ports and connections housed on the device’s left side, all with protective flaps. The SIM port of the Z1 is located at the top-right edge, while on the Compact it is on the bottom edge. The micro-USB port and the microSD slot sit on the top. Other design changes include; headphone jack on the top edge, and camera flash placed beside the lens (on the Z1 it is below the lens).
The body is built with aluminum and glass. So, the Xperia Z1 Compact does not belong to the plastic made devices.
The All in all, the design of the Z1 Compact can be described as a crushed down Xperia Z1, with some little changes here and there.
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Features
Sony may have joined the Android bandwagon but it is determined to remind people of what the name truly stands for. This means that you get to see the “Album” and not the “Gallery” or you can listen to music through “Walkman” and not through “Play Music” and so on. For those who have used Xperias before, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
When it comes to the overall performance of the Compact, the Qualcomm 2.2 GHz chip used on this phone is simply superb. Aside from that great processor performance, the battery (non-removable 2300 mAh Li-Ion) used for the Compact should be applauded as well. It may have been downsized together with the phone’s dimension but it is packs a good long lasting life.
Other features are:
- Camera – 20.7 MP (rear) and 2 MP (front-facing)
- Internal Memory Storage – 16 GB
- External Memory Storage Option – up to 64 GB through microSDXC
- Operating System – Android 4.3
Without beating about the bush it can be summed up that Sony has successfully been able to accomplish what other phone manufacturers should have done: downsizing a device but making sure that the performance level is not reduced.
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is the best option if you want a handier mobile device. It is sized just right and it is packs with all the necessary specs.
