iOS 8 Innovation
The world is definitely going very high-tech. It is now possible to ask questions to your device without you laying a finger on it. The “Hey, Siri” command gives more power to Siri, the voice-controlled PA from Apple.
For Apple device users, the new hands free Siri mode can be enabled after the iOS 8 installation. For the “Hey, Siri” command to work though, the device needs to be plugged in. This means this new iOS 8 feature only works when you are charging your iPhone or iPad device.
Talking to Siri through the “Hey, Siri” command is easy, just speak naturally and there is no need to pause after you initiated the command. You can ask your question even if you are running another application or even when the device’s screen is locked.
Turning “Hey, Siri” on iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with iOS 8
In order to enable “Hey, Siri” on your device, you must first update your device to the new Apple Operating System, iOS 8. If you have one the latest iPhone models (iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus) then you already have iOS 8 running on your device.
If you have the older iPhone model then you need to update to iOS 8. All you have to do is to plug in your device and make sure that there’s an active Wi-Fi connection. Go to Settings and download the new iOS update. Depending on the Internet connection on your device, the process usually only takes about an hour or so.
Unlock the device the way you always do and go to the Settings app on the Home Screen. If you can’t find it, try searching in the folders, rearranging the apps could relocate the Settings app.
Once you are in the Settings screen, scroll down a little and look for the General option, tap that. Go to the Allow “Hey, Siri” option and select that. While you are at it, you can also modify your Siri settings. For instance, you can change the voice or you can add some personal information like your full name.
Once the “Hey, Siri” feature is enabled, you can start using it. Before you start using this feature though, you need to understand that this hands free innovation is not the universal replacement for the way you interact with your iPhone. Since this command only works when you are charging the device, or when it is connected to a power outlet, ten it only means that physical contact is still essential when you are using your Apple device.
The idea behind the need for power connection before being able to use the “Hey, Siri” command is to save precious battery time. Therefore, if you want to use the command while you are inside your car, it is a good idea to get an extra lighting cable so that you would have to carry your charging cable all the time.
Every time you initiate “Hey, Siri” your device is alerted for your incoming command or question. You can use the command to call anyone of your contacts or you can tell it to play your favorite music. You can even get driving directions if you think you are getting lost on the road as “Hey, Siri” can also get web search results on your behalf. Now, that is indeed a very handy hands-free feature.
